Today, the men and women of Ivanhoe Mines and Ivanplats, our South African subsidiary, honour Nelson Mandela, a man who dedicated his life to freedom and equality.

Mr. Mandela, whose successful struggle against South Africa’s apartheid system of racial segregation and discrimination made him a global symbol for the cause of human rights and earned him the Nobel Peace Prize, would have turned 100 years old today.

During his lifetime, Mandela inspired us with his wisdom and unique capacity to forgive, which will remain etched in our memories forever. On behalf of everyone at Ivanhoe Mines and Ivanplats, we wish to revive the spirit of “Ubuntu” — humanity to others.

Happy birthday, President Mandela. We honour you and will work to continue your legacy.
