The original Ivanhoe Mines that discovered and developed the Oyu Tolgoi Mine in Mongolia changed its named to Turquoise Hill Resources in August 2012. Rio Tinto Group acquired full ownership of Turquoise Hill in December 2022.

When was Ivanhoe Mines incorporated? When did Ivanhoe Mines go public?

The company was incorporated on April 29, 1993. On May 6, 2011 the shareholders of the company approved a reorganization which was completed in September 2012 and the company changed its name from Ivanhoe Nickel & Platinum Ltd. to Ivanplats Limited. On October 23, 2012 Ivanplats successfully closed a C$300 million (US$307 million) initial public offering and its shares began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol IVP.

On August 28, 2013, Ivanplats changed its name to Ivanhoe Mines to reflect that the company had grown to become more than a singularly focused platinum-group metals company. With the name change, Ivanhoe Mines shares began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol IVN. On October 26, 2016, Ivanhoe Mines shares also began trading on the OTCQX Best Market in the United States under the symbol IVPAF.
